A bit about me

Hi, I’m Kieran — freelance copywriter, brand journalist, and purveyor of fine words.

I've spent the last decade working with companies like Shopify, ConvertKit, and Productboard — mostly helping them figure out what makes them interesting and turning it into words people actually want to read.

I’ve ghostwritten books for software executives, built editorial teams from scratch, edited one of the world’s largest ecommerce blogs in the world, and written hundreds of pieces on everything from business strategy to why we binge-watch terrible TV. Some of that work still ranks #1 in Google, driving hundreds of thousands of visitors. Most of it just sounds like actual humans wrote it.

I’m also proudly neurodiverse — after a lifetime of burning out and feeling misunderstood, I was diagnosed with ADHD in 2025 and I’m seeking an Autism assessment. I write regularly about building a freelancing business that works with my brain, not against it, and I advocate for better acceptance and accommodations for ND freelancers and creators.

Now I’m based in Adelaide, working with digital and print publications, mission-driven companies, B corps, startups, and lifestyle brands. I also partner with design studios and agencies who need brand voice, positioning, or editorial work for their clients.

Currently accepting commissions as of January 2026 — if you have an interesting project and think I’d be a solid fit, reach out and I’ll be in touch 🤘

Fair warning: I'm not for everyone. If you need someone to make your brand sound more corporate, smooth out the edges, or avoid saying anything remotely opinionated, I'm not your person. But if you're tired of sounding like everyone else and want to actually stand out, let's talk:

Say Hi →

My Philosophy:
No committees, no jargon, no BS

Most brand projects get watered down by approval chains and corporate-speak. Someone says something interesting, then six stakeholders smooth it into nothing. You end up with a brand that sounds like everyone else because everyone's terrified of sounding wrong.

I work differently:

Start with what's interesting

Not what you think you should say. Not what your competitor says. The thing that made you start this company in the first place. The thing that makes people lean in instead of tune out.

Most brands bury their most interesting material because they're worried it's not "professional" enough. But the quirky origin story, the weird problem you solve, the opinionated take on your industry — that's the tension people actually remember.

Know your audience

You can't sound like yourself if you're trying to talk to everyone.

The best brands have a clear point of view about who they're for — and who they're not for. That specificity isn't limiting, it's liberating. It lets you stop hedging and start saying something that actually resonates.

Mission-driven companies. B corps. Startups that give a shit. Design studios who care about craft. If you're trying to appeal to everyone, you'll sound like no one.

Make it work, make it memorable

Brand voice needs two things: the logic and the magic.

Logic is the strategic stuff — knowing your audience, understanding what differentiates you, having a clear POV. Magic is the unexpected turn of phrase, the specific detail, the voice that makes people stop scrolling.

Good brand voice is coherent, not consistent. Principles and patterns, not rigid rules.

Ship it fast, stay the course

Brand voice projects can drag on forever — endless workshops, revision cycles, approval chains. Meanwhile, your team is still putting out content that sounds like everyone else.

I work in tight sprints. We get you to something you can use quickly, then iterate based on what's working.

The goal isn't perfection on day one — it’s avoiding compromise. It's giving your team the confidence to sound like themselves, then refining as you grow.

“Teaming up with Kieran made me step back and think 'Oh, so THIS is what's it's like working with a total pro.' He’s not just on the ball; he’s ahead of it, meeting deadlines, nailing edits, and keeping everything shipshape. Can’t wait for our next project!”
